Biography...

Born and raised in Nottingham, David Pearce started to play the trombone at the age of 14. His main influence to take up the instrument was after listening to music of the big band era, in particular the music of Glenn Miller.

After leaving school, David went on to study at his local sixth-form college under the tuition of respected musician and trombonist, Doug Wilkie. In addition to the lessons he received at the college, he also took lessons from band leader and trombonist Chris Dean, and the late Don Lusher, OBE. While at college, David would often appear with local big bands in the Nottingham area, including the Henley Farrell Big Band, Nottingham Jazz Orchestra (directed by Tommy Saville) and the Terry Peter's Big Band. After completing his A-Level studies, David went on to travel the length and breadth of England with various big bands. He was often featured with the Herb Miller Orchestra (now the John Miller Orchestra) directed by nephew of Glenn Miller, John Miller.

Along with the advice from his tutor Doug Wilkie, David has had a lot of guidance from many musicians in the present big band business, in particular, John Miller. This has had a big impact on David's life and is also one of the factors to the career that David is pursuing.

It was in 2002 that David began a four-year undergraduate course at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, studying with Chris Houlding, Robert Holliday and in his final year, Adrian Morris. During his first year, he was awarded the prestigious "Stan Barker Memorial Prize" for jazz improvisation and playing in the RNCM Big Band. While studying at the RNCM, he had the opportunity of playing in a wide variety of the college ensembles, including the Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Opera Orchestra, Wind Orchestra, Brass Band, Brass Ensemble and the RNCM Big Band under the direction of Mike Hall. During his time with the RNCM Big Band, David had the privilege of working beside Jiggs Whigham, Don Lusher, Steve Waterman, John Warren, Anita Wardell, Andy Sheppard, Matthew Herbert, Peter Wraight, Julien Joseph and John Wilson. It was in March 2004 David formed his own big band - The Dave Pearce Orchestra - using students that were in the college and ex-RNCM students.

David was approached half-way through his course by Chris Houlding, and was asked if he would consider changing to bass trombone. David jumped at the chance, and for the remainder of his time at the RNCM, enjoyed the tuition he received from Adrian (Benny) Morris - bass trombonist of the Halle´Orchestra. David learned a lot from Adrian, and was flattered when he was asked to 'dep' for Adrian in the Halle´Orchestra in July 2006. David graduated from the RNCM in the summer of 2006 with a BMus (Hons) degree.

David can often be seen appearing with many of the professional big bands in England. He is the current bass trombonist for the Nick Ross Orchestra, touring all over the UK with the "Sounds of the Glenn Miller Era", playing alongside musicians who are also regular members of the Syd Lawrence Orchestra, BBC Big Band and the Glenn Miller Orchestra.

He has had the pleasure of working with the John Miller Orchestra, Glenn Miller Orchestra (UK) led by Ray McVay, the Glenn Miller Tribute Orchestra, Memphis Belle Swing Orchestra, Squadronairs Dance Orchestra, Nelson Riddle Tribute Orchestra, Kings of Swing Orchestra, Nelson Riddle Tribute Orchestra, Swing Shift Big Band (Directed by trombonist Lee Hallam) , Debbie Curtis Radio Big Band and the French Glenn Miller Memorial Orchestra - participating in the January tour of France in 2008.

David has also worked with 'West End' singers such as Louis Hoover, Chris Mann, Allie Laurie, Nigel Casey, Mark Halliday and Alonzo Saunders with The Rat Pack Live from Las Vegas show. He also toured Stuttgart and Hannover with the Rat Pack show in December 2007.

On the 'orchestral side of life', David is regularly called upon to play for orchestras all around Europe. His highlights include playing in the 'Opera Comique' the 'Salle Pleyel' and the 'Theatre Chatelet', Paris.
